World environment day is also known as Eco day which is celebrated on 5th of June every year. This day is also recognized by its short abbreviation WED. The importance of clean, healthy and green environment is known to people by the means of different activities performed all over the world.
It was established by United Nations General Assembly and United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) with the particular theme of “Only One Earthâ€. World environment Day is actually planned to aware people from environmental issues like Wastage and losses of bard, deforestation, increasing global warming and so many. It also focus on forest management, carbon neutrality, reducing green house effects, promoting bio-fuel production by planting on degraded lands, use of hydro-power to enhance electricity production through solar sources, developing new drainage systems.
Different activities are performed to celebrate this event where news channels and reporters actively participate to bring effective and positive change towards environmental issues. This year this day is hosted by Canada with the theme of “Connecting people to Natureâ€. This theme is planned to love, care and come close to Nature. This also encourages everyone to protect and appreciate our environment. This year the citizens of Mumbai, India are taking part in a mass beach clean-up while Canada is offering free entry to its national parks and marine conservation areas.
Celebration of this day encourages common people to join the campaign and become active agent in developing environmental safety measures. So everyone can take part in various activities which are going around us to protect our Earth.
